Blue Careers

The work in Shipping and Transport is becoming more and more complex. The demand for well-trained staff is rising. As a result of that increase, educators such as STC Group (STC) have stepped up their search for qualified lecturers with up-to-date knowledge and suitable internships. Blue Careers is a unique collaboration project between STC Group and the Business Community. The goal of this project is twofold. One part of the project is closely working with the project partners to recruit and train the Hybrid Lecturers. The second goal of this project is creating an extensive online apprenticeship desk.

Hybrid Lecturer
A hybrid lecturer maintains his job at a maritime/logistic employer (part-time) and teaches part-time at STC Group. This ensures up-to-date and hands-on knowledge on the lecturers part.

The aim of the project was to get 10 hybrid lecturers who, for the duration of the project, devote part of their time to training the employees of the future, in addition to their job in the maritime cluster. They remain employed by the company for the rest of their working week. The Hybrid Lectures receive a thorough education to acquire the didactic skills needed and are guided by an experienced STC mentor.

Meanwhile, seven hybrid subject teachers have started at STC, have completed the PDG training and new hybrid teachers have started. The concept of a hybrid teacher is also fully embedded in the organization.

Apprenticeship desk
Internships are an important and compulsory part of the Secundairy Vocational Education of young people. In recent years, more and more young students have chosen the maritime sector, which has increased the pressure on the available internships. Establishing an apprenticeship desk an important goal of the Blue Careers project.
